Erich Faltermeier is from Munich and received his first piano lesson at
Baroness von Waltershausen at the "Waltershausen Seminar" at the age of four
years. The highly talented child debuted in the Hercules Hall of the
Residence Munich already two years later.
Because of its gifted early development, Erich Faltermeier was already invited
to the participation in master courses of the piano School New York with
Claudio Arrau and Raphael de Silva as 12-year. He started his studies
at the age of 16 years with Prof. Rosl Schmid at the University for Music
in Munich and completed "with the highest award" in 1974. Furthermore he studied
transverse flute and directing (examinations 1972 - 1974).
Erich Faltermeier created type name meaning to itself one as concert pianist,
chamber musician and song companion at once. He played with members of the Milan
Scala on the occasion of the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 and 1989 with the
Essener Philharmoniker under chief musical director Heinz Wallberg.
His actively international concert activity led him into almost all parts of the
world meanwhile. His comprehensive repertoire reaches of the early baroque music
to the modern age/avantgarde. His versatility gave Erich Faltermeier also under
proof with the Europatournee "Rock meets Classic" with the rock group "Procul
Harum" and with concerts and recordings ("Windows") with Eberhard Schoener and "Deep
Purple".
He devotes itself with enthusiasm of the chamber music after numerous prices as
a soloist (among others 1973 "Prager Frühling", 1979 "Chambre de musique /
Bordeaux"). Erich Faltermeier was a piano partner of Hermann Baumann
(horn), Frank Peter Zimmermann (violin) and Matthias Rütters
(flute). In addition, he was co-founder of Camarata Bonn (baroque
ensemble) and he is the pianist of the Trio de Bruxelles (with
Jean-Michel Tanguy, flute, and Ulrich Müller-Doppler, flute) as well
as the Doppler Duo (with Ulrich Müller-Doppler, flute).
For many years Erich Faltermeier has been the permanent piano partner of the
renowned flautist and composer Reza Najfar.
His numerous broadcast recordings (WDR, BR, NDR, SWF, DLF, RAI, Rundfunk OSLO)
and CD-recordings also account him as a sensitive companion.
Since 1977 Erich Faltermeier is an assistant professor at the Folkwang
University in Essen and furthermore gives master rates for pianoaccomp in the
inland and foreign countries.
